Biogas

A mixture of gases, mostly methane and carbon dioxide, produced by anaerobic digestion of organic waste that can be used to produce heat or electricity. It also contains traces of hydrogen, hydrogen sulphide, siloxanes or ammonia. Biogas is formed spontaneously when biowaste smoulders, but it can also be produced deliberately in biogas stations. The feedstock can be organic waste, manure or sewage. After cleaning and drying, biogas is often burned in cogeneration plants to produce both heat and electricity.
