Gamma radiation

A stream of high-energy photons produced by radioactive decay. Typically, gamma ray photons have a wavelength shorter than 10−10 metres and an energy higher than tens of thousands of electronvolts. Gamma rays are often produced during other types of radioactive decay, i.e., alpha or beta decay. Gamma radiation has a high penetration capability and can be shielded by a thick layer of lead.
