Leaching

A method of obtaining uranium from uranium ores by leaching them in a solution of suitable chemicals. The chemicals used for uranium leaching are sulfuric acid or sodium carbonate. In the case of a technology called in-situ leaching, the leach, oxidizer, and water are injected into an underground deposit of uranium ore, and the saturated leachate is then pumped to the surface for further treatment. Uranium leachate is processed into uranium oxide concentrate, known as yellow cake.
