Reservoir

A large mass of water held back for further use by a natural, but more often artificial, barrier such as a dam. Most often, a reservoir takes the form of a large artificial lake, created by the accumulation of water after damming a valley. The reservoir is used for drinking water storage, flood control or hydropower. Pumped storage plants have an artificial reservoir built higher up, where they pump water from a lower reservoir in case of a power surplus.
