Cogeneration plant

A power plant that produces simultaneously heat and electricity from a single source. A cogeneration plant typically has a gas or steam turbine that produces electricity, but the waste heat is further used e.g. for domestic heating or for industrial processes that require large amounts of process heat, such as paper production. In principle, any thermal power plant, be it geothermal, coal-fired, biomass or biogas-fired, or even nuclear, can be adapted for cogeneration.
