Critical state

Critical state of the nuclear reaction.

The state of a nuclear reactor core when neutron concentration remains steady and power is not increasing nor decreasing. A critical state is the typical state of a nuclear reactor in operation. In an ongoing fission reaction, approximately the same number of atomic nuclei are split in each generation. This state is maintained by control rods which absorb the excess neutrons.
