Neutron with energy above about 1 keV. The kinetic energy of neutrons also expresses their velocity or temperature. The fast neutrons with an energy of about 1 MeV result from nuclear fission reactions. They can be slowed down by a moderator to become thermal neutrons or used in fast neutron reactors for fission or plutonium breeding by neutron capture.
