Fission

Process of fission.

Type of nuclear reaction during which an atom’s nucleus is split into two or more parts after being hit by a neutron. A typical fission process is the splitting of the uranium isotope 235U. During the reaction, neutrons and a large amount of energy are released. The neutrons can fission another uranium nuclei and the released energy is used in nuclear power plants for electricity production.
