High-Voltage Direct Current, HVDC

A method of transmitting electricity by direct current, used over long distances where losses are lower than with alternating current, and for transmitting power between networks that are not synchronized. It is used to transmit electricity between countries, or for submarine cables. Conversion equipment between AC and DC is expensive, so it is not worth using HVDC for short distances.
