Hydropower

Water cycle. Energy of flowing water is used in hydropower plants.

Energy of moving water. Hydropower is continuously renewed by the water cycle — water evaporates from water bodies, condenses in clouds and falls to the earth’s surface where it flows through streams and rivers to the sea. Hydropower harnesses the kinetic energy of water or converts into it potential energy of water, e.g. in a reservoir. Most often, this energy is used to drive a turbine that powers a generator that produces electricity.
