Hormesis

The theory that low doses of ionising radiation can be beneficial to the organism. A number of studies have shown that people living in areas with higher natural radioactivity have a lower incidence of cancer. The hormesis theory suggests that minor cell damage caused by ionising radiation activates the organism’s repair mechanisms, which then enable the organism to cope better with other problems, such as cancer cells.
