Neutron multiplier
Neutron multiplying scheme.
A material that releases more neutrons upon neutron impact. Neutron multiplier will be necessary in tritium breeders in thermonuclear reactors where tritium will be produced from lithium via neutron capture. However, to produce more tritium atoms from a single neutron, a neutron multiplier will be needed to increase the number of neutrons. Beryllium, lead, or beryllium compounds called beryllides appear to be suitable candidates.
