A hydroelectric power plant built on a smaller watercourse with a maximum output of several MW. It is often equipped with a cheap and simple cross-flow turbine and its output fluctuates throughout the year. Because it is a small hydropower plant, often built on the site of a former mill, the environmental impact of it is lower than that of a giant dam.
