Primary circuit

Model of PWR reactor primary circuit.

A cooling circuit that removes heat from a reactor (e.g., nuclear, combusting coal, or biomass) by means of a coolant. The heat can be transferred to the secondary circuit coolant in the heat exchanger or used directly. If the coolant in the primary circuit, after leaving the reactor, has the form of hot gas or superheated steam, for example, it can be used to drive a turbine, which generates electricity by a generator.
