Pumped storage hydroelectric power plant

A hydroelectric power plant consisting of two interconnected reservoirs used to store electricity in the form of potential water energy. The lower reservoir usually takes the form of a dam on a river. In the event of a surplus of electricity, this energy drives a pump that feeds the water into the artificial reservoir above. When needed, water from the upper reservoir is released via a penstock onto a turbine that drives an electric generator.
