The containment of a BWR reactor is much smaller than a PWR containment. It consists of a dry well, which resembles an inverted light bulb and in which the reactor is located, and a wet well, also known as a torus or suppression pool. In the event of a hypothetical accident, the dry well serves to capture coolant leaks from the reactor, which are immediately flashed to steam. The generated steam is then fed into the suppression pool, where it condenses.
