A research reactor is a nuclear reactor designed primarily for scientific research, education, material testing, or isotope production rather than electricity generation. Research reactors are usually smaller than commercial power reactors and may use different fuel types and reactor designs. Many older research reactors are currently undergoing decommissioning worldwide.
